God-like Powers (But banned to play the God!)

The benefits of synthetic biology are too great for it to be written off with
fear-mongering maxims- source unknown.

God like Powers, Well the Synthetic Biology(S.B) has been a secret and restricted since the (Greek Mythology Titan thief-ted Fire form god... Prometheus.) to the present world. because Synthetic Biology is the one which makes DNA to be editable(i mean Breed). But S.B is only open to NASA(and not for open Scientist). and its a demand from worldwide Scientists to allow Synthetic Bio Research
“Playing God since 1660” reads the motto on the Royal Society’s sign in a scene from The Pirates ! In an Adventure with Scientists , the latest film from the makers of Wallace and Gromit . And now I can no longer enter the doors of our national science academy without quoting the Pirate Captain’s rallying cry, “Prepare to be boarded, nerds!”.
Earlier this year I presented a BBC TV Horizon programme on synthetic biology. Our choice of title, Playing God, was not intended as a criticism of synthetic biologists, but rather to highlight an allegation they often face. Environmentalists, religious figures and sections of the media regularly use the phrase as a handy stick with which to beat those in the field. Scientists, they claim, are foolishly meddling in matters that should be left to the gods or nature.
That accusation has been made in attacks against many of the major scientific advances of the modern era, including Watson and Crick’s description of the structure of DNA in 1953; the birth of the first IVF baby, Louise Brown, in 1978; the creation of Dolly the sheep in 1997; and the sequencing of the human genome in 2001. In all these scenarios, it’s not clear exactly what “playing God” actually means.
Synthetic biology means different things to different people. Its leading scientists want to create, characterise and, crucially, standardise individual pieces of DNA. The purpose is to build biological circuits with specific functions, in much the same way that you might arrange components to make an electrical circuit. Others want to produce new versions of genetic code with entirely new letters and entirely unnatural versions of DNA.
The ability to design and build biological systems provides a new way to understand how living things work, yet the field is much more about engineering than it is about pure science. However, many synthetic biologists are seeking to solve problems in more efficient ways than traditional engineering does, with potential applications ranging from fighting pollution and cancer to manufacturing fuel and drugs.
Researchers in California, for example, have created synthetic circuits for yeast cells that produce a chemical called artemisinin, a key antimalarial drug. This will be cheaper than getting it from the plantArtemisia annua , the current production method.
(A cloned baby , this banned.)
NASA is investigating ways to create bacteria that counter the effects of radiation sickness in astronauts. Meanwhile, a U.S.-Swiss group has engineered a genetic circuit designed to detect and destroy cancer cells without inflicting the unintended damage caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Prometheus, a titan in Greek mythology, stole fire from the gods and gave it to humans. His punishment was to be bound to a rock, have his liver plucked out by an eagle and regrown overnight, so that his ordeal could be played out repeatedly. The idea — and the negative connotations — of humans acquiring godlike powers is culturally embedded in legends such as this.
Yet there is almost no aspect of human behaviour that isn’t some form of manipulation of the environment for our own purposes. Farming, which we’ve been doing for more than 10,000 years, is quite the opposite of natural. Breeding, known scientifically as “artificial selection”, is the process of mixing genes by design to engineer cheap and plentiful food.
Detractors use the phrase “playing God” to provoke emotive opposition without defining what it is about synthetic biology that is qualitatively different to the previous advances that they enjoy and benefit from every day. Should we go back to the time before humans started playing God through their development of sanitation, vaccines and measures to counter widespread child mortality?
There will be very few aspects of our lives that will remain untouched by synthetic biology. Advancing technology is not risk-free, and needs to be regulated, understood and, if necessary, curtailed. But those decisions need to be made as part of informed public conversations about the relative risks and benefits. The opportunities are too great for synthetic biology to be written off with fear-mongering maxims.
If playing God involves developing technologies that cure diseases, clean up pollution and create new forms of fuel, then these potential benefits need to be considered without the burden of vague, simplistic sound bites.
Only with engaged and rational public discussions about what a technology such as synthetic biology means, and what it can and can’t achieve, can we harness it to create a better future.

Malnutrition(The big problem in India)

Malnutrition is seen to be the root cause of poor health, specially among children and in poor sections of society.
Though there is now enough food available,it is not rich in proteins, necessary for growth and health.Since large number of Indians are vegetarians and their diet needs to be supplemented by "protein" and "iron".
New sources of protein are being tapped and nutritious foods are being manufactured in food and research centres,in state dairies and agricultural research institutions..
Safe drinking water is equally necessary for health, and provision for water supplies and sanitation is being expanded.....

Malnutrition in India is a never-ending process......

Prevention of varicose veins...

What are veins??
-Blood vessels that carry deoxygenated blood from outer parts of the body back to the heart and lungs.
VARICOSE VEINS: These are abnormally thick, twisted or enlarged veins, usually seen in legs.
How it causes??
-Damaged valves within the veins and abnormalities of the vein wall,by increasing pressure.
Symptoms; Relief on lying down and elevating legs, external bleeding from veins, itching in lower leg, legs ache, feel heavy by evening..
It can be treated by surgery, radio frequency ablation(laser therapy),sclerotherapy(injection of a chemical).
PREVENTION:Controlling your weight, avoid alcohol, wear loose clothes, raise your legs, exercise with care(especially by biking, swimming and walking can improve the circulation in legs and prevent varicose veins....

Super bacteria....

Super bacteria(super bugs) are bacteria that have grown resistant to most antibiotics.
Antibiotics are widely used to treat bacterial infections, but the presence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria has raised substantial concern about the future effectiveness of antibiotics.
-Antibiotic-resistant bacteria develop in the "gastrointestinal tracts" of people taking antibiotics. In the past ,a doctor would prescribe antibiotics to treat "bacterial infection" so that the patient would get better, but today that may still happen in most cases, but scientists have become concerned that antibiotics are being misused,a situation implicated in the development of super bacteria.
By using antibacterial soaps and liquids are also to blame for the development of drug-resistant bacteria. Some experts believe they may actually increase bacterial infection rates.

Avoid products that are capable of killing 99% of germs and bacteria.....

study Bioinformatics

Introduction.
Bioinformatic is a regular biology, to be more specific it is a computational(an act or a process) branch of molecular biology.
-Bioinformatic goes way beyond trendy.....it is at the center of the most recent development in biology such as "system biology"(understanding of network behavior and their dynamic aspects),new bio technologies, forensic techniques, and also personalized medicine of the future.
-It is very simple if we understand the basics of molecular biology.
-If your background is in" computer science" then it is wonderful to enjoy the ride in bioinformatic s....)

Green Plants Reduce City Street Pollution Up to Eight Times More Than Previously Believed

Trees, bushes and other greenery growing in the concrete-and-glass canyons of cities can reduce levels of two of the most worrisome air pollutants by eight times more than previously believed, a new study has found. A report on the research appears in the ACS journal Environmental Science & Technology.
Thomas Pugh and colleagues explain that concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and microscopic particulate matter (PM) -- both of which can be harmful to human health -- exceed safe levels on the streets of many cities. The study concluded that judicious placement of grass, climbing ivy and other plants in urban canyons can reduce the concentration at street level of NO2 by as much as 40 percent and PM by 60 percent, much more than previously believed.

MSRIT Bio Tech department(Raise of young minds)

The Biotech dept in MSRIT college (India ,bangalore) supports students to there requirements. Being  part of the this college is inspiring to develop this blog . This blog is meant  to share my Bio Knowledge to the world. This is it!
and welcome to BIO-Spidy. and be a Spidy!:)

GeoEnginnering Raising new heights

GeoEnginnering Raising new heights , as we were not predicated.
with the cause of the environment degradation on the global planet , GeoEnginnering taking new layered level that makes new way to the cause of global warming. praise to BioTech
They plan to do so by using a balloon flying 80,000 feet above the Fort Sumner. The geoengineering project aims to mimic the effects of volcanoes spewing sulphuric ash into the air.

The experiment will take place in a year and see the release of tens or hundreds of kilograms of particles that, besides measuring impacts on ozone chemistry, will also find ways to make the sulphate aerosols the correct size.

"The objective is not to alter the climate, but simply to probe the processes at a micro scale," Keith told the Guardian. "The direct risk is very small.

Eating disorder....

An eating disorder is a irrational behavior in which the main problem in which the person eats in a way which disturbs their physical health....
over-eating; what drives us to eat?
hunger, appetite, satiety(the condition of physically feeling full) and mindless eating.Over-eating is a significant problem which is critical to find ways to turn down hunger, normalize our desire for food, feel full and satisfied that trigger us to mindlessly eat.
The best known eating disorders are anorexia nervosa(a complex eating disorder like refusal to maintain a healthy body weight, a distorted body image), Bulimia nervosa(it is a psychological disorder i.e. out-of-control dieting)and pica(observed most frequently in children due to lack of certain nutrients such as iron and zinc deficiency .
Although Eating disorder feels excessive , But control in under self. Start Awareness on what you take!.  :)

BioFuture!

The Bio world that never end's future!.
Always the future remains for Bio even its cross 100 years. Because the Technology trend is changing constantly .
But the present trend in Bio Industry is mainly focused on Medical and Agriculture Industry of the world.
So, The present Biotech is modernistic only in developed countries and not in developing states, because of  lack of investment and delay in technological developments.
The countries like Europe and U.S has to globalize the education and allow the FDI to developing countries(like India).
finally the BioTech future remains in the young minded people and should allow window to these minds.
BioFuture!!.
